Each summer thousands of people around the world find themselves in front of their PC, eagerly awaiting the opportunity to sign up for a spot on the Mongol Rally. Few will succeed, but for those few hundred teams who successfully grab a spot on the Mongol Rally the next year will be a whirlwind of activity.
It’s difficult to underestimate the sheer amount of work that goes into preparing for the Mongol Rally. In the year between sign up and the launch day you have to find a car, prepare it for the looooong trip between the UK and Mongolia, raise at least £1,000 for the Mongolian charity of choice, and – most importantly – make sure that all of your team can actually take part in the Mongol Rally. Many sign up each year only to find that they cannot book enough time away from work to take part in the Mongol Rally.
While this is obviously a bad thing, it’s fantastic for those who missed out on the chance to grab a Mongol Rally spot on sign up day. As each team drops out of the running a new team can take its place, so even months after the initial sign up it’s often possible to snag a spot on the Mongol Rally.
If you’d like to grab a place on the Mongol Rally 2012 you’ll need tenacity, foresight and cojones the size of bowling balls. With a little work and a lot of luck you can grab a Mongol Rally spot in time to get your affairs in order in time for the launch day.
